Holly Van Hoey is a passionate singer, voice teacher, and registered Music Together teacher who has to pinch herself every day that her job is bringing the joy of music to families each and every week! Holly co-founded the Music Together program at Higher Voice Studio in downtown Carnegie where she teaches private voice lessons in 2016 with her boss Hilerie Klein Rensi. Beginning in January of 2020, she is SO excited to take the reigns as owner and director of Music Together Kindred Voices.
Families may be surprised to hear this, but Holly’s journey of finding her own musicality was anything but easy. As a young child, Holly was extremely shy, even refusing to sing in front of those closest to her. As she grew up, music became her way of escaping her fears and gaining self-awareness and self-esteem. Then while earning her music education degree at San Francisco State University in 2013, Holly taught Music Together classes for a little over a year and fell in love with the program! It embodied ideals she had always celebrated: that music-making was a skill and not a talent and that anyone can enjoy their own musical expression. Holly believes children are born musical and that music education at a very young age is crucial to proper emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Not to mention, parental involvement and music-making in the home can foster and inspire beautiful family bonds. Music is for every person no matter their level or experience. This is Holly’s dearest belief which inspires her work each and every day.
When not singing, making funny noises, playing with drums and shakers, or dancing like nobody is watching, Holly can be found baking away at home with her husband, James, and their two dogs and two cats!
